In San Francisco, there are over 700,000 trees: one for almost every person who lives in the city
Archival pigment print, 30 x 40 inches, 2007. Edition of 3.

Starkweather's blue dots point to the location of trees planted in downtown San Francisco. Hughen created drawings and screenprints of hexagons that reference both cellular structure (trees, air, humans) and the pattern of the tiles found in many downtown BART stations. The partitioned circular marks in the background reference the shape of car tires and manhole covers.
