In this series, Hughen altered found IKEA tabletops, cutting into the surfaces, revealing the levels of substrate, and adding her own sculptural materials into the underbelly to create landscapes. She augmented the surface woodgrain with screenprinted geometric patterns using shapes from engineering and architectural templates. On some works she attempts to mimic the grain of the wood using acrylic paint. The dualities of natural/synthetic and unique/mass-produced are present in the formal and conceptual aspects of these 3-dimensional wall works.
